Following Brexit free movement ends, this will have a significant impact on UK employers who currently enjoy the ease of hiring skilled migrants from the EU.
Under the post Brexit immigration system, EU nationals will eventually be subject to the same immigration requirements as non EU nationals and require sponsorship from a UK employer and a visa to work in the UK.
Under the new immigration system from January 2021, all employers that are planning to hire overseas workers including EU nationals, they should use sponsorship system.
The Home Office introduced new point bases sponsor system and they reduced the minimum skill from RQF level 6 to RQF level 3. This means that jobs which are considered to be A-level standard can be sponsored, instead of the Bachelor’s degree qualifications which are required now. However, low skilled jobs such as cleaner, nursing home carer, hospital porters are not included.
Organisations that do not have sponsorship system at the moment but think they are likely to be recruiting overseas workers at this A-level skill level next year can apply now for a sponsor licence.
As the application process is unchanged,
the organisation will still need to meet the eligibility and suitability
criteria, apply on the same online form with sufficient documentary evidence.
But they will only need to show they can offer "genuine employment skilled
to level RQF 3 or above", rather than RQF 6 as today.
