This post updates the changes of UK immigration law and practice on the 6th of April.

  1. Visa Application Fees frozen for 2020/21

The fees for immigration and nationality application that apply from 6 April 2020 remain unchanged.

  2. Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa and Furlough

The business visa holders whose business has been disrupted "no longer need to employ at least 2 people for 12 consecutive months each". The 12 months period they are required to employ someone for can be made up of multiple employees across different months. However, the time on furlough will not count towards the 12 months period. If entrepreneurs have not been able to employ staff for 12 months in total by the time the visa expires, they will be allowed to temporarily extend their stay to have time to meet the requirement.

  3. Automatic visa extension for NHS workers

The Home Office announced the doctors, nurses and paramedics with leave due to expire by 1 October would get a free one-year extension and no fee is involved. The automatic extension also applies for their family members. They do not make application and the visa will be extended automatically.
