The UK Global talent visa route is also open to talented individuals who wish to work in the UK in the film and television field. Applicants are required to be endorsed by the UK's Producers’ Alliance for Film and Television (PACT) on behalf of the Arts Council England. PACT (Producers’ Alliance for Film and Television) can determine applicants in the film, television, animation, post-production and visual effects industries.
There is no annual cap on endorsement for the film and television sectors, but applicants must demonstrate that they have "exceptional talent."
Requirements for endorsement
It usually takes six to eight weeks to make the decision to be endorsed and the requirement for application are as follows:
1. Awards
Most of the film and television requirements are related to whether they have won or been nominated for world-famous awards, Academy Awards, British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Cymru, Scotland, Game Awards, Golden Globe, or Emmy Award and the applicant must be able to satisfy at least one of them.
Even if it is not such a famous award, it is possible to have a direct contribution to winning at least three awards in related industries.
The list of potential awards is almost 200 and is updated from time to time, so it is important to make sure that you can meet the criteria.
2. Media awareness
Applicants should be able to prove whether they have international distribution sales and recognition in films and television or related industries.
It is also notable that awards alone are not enough because they have to show that their works have international distribution sales and recognition when relying on these awards.
3. Recommendation letters
To support the application, you must submit three recommendation letters to PACT.
Recommendation letters should come from a UK based organisation, institutions, or companies with a reputation nationally or internationally and widely acknowledged as possessing expertise in this industry.
The letters should be received from senior executives of the organization who are familiar with the applicant’s work and can comment on the applicant's achievements. They need to explain in detail how the applicant can achieve in the field of expertise and the potential to become a leader in that field.
Visa application
Once you have a PACT endorsement, you only have three months to apply for your visa either outside the UK or inside the UK.
In addition to the endorsement letter, the Home Office will assess your character and immigration history to ensure that you do not fall under the general grounds for refusal.
In order to make an application within the UK, your leave should be in the category to switch to a global talented visa. However, you do not have to go back to your home country to submit your application, because the application can be made from anywhere in the world.
Global talent visas do not require proof of English and maintenance funds.
Leave will be granted for up to 5 years.
Applicants in this field are recognised as "exceptionally talented" not "promising" and are eligible to settle in the UK within three years. However, if you need to travel often, you can apply for more than three years.
