The final step to becoming a UK citizen is to attend a Home Office UK citizenship ceremony and receipt a UK citizenship certificate. If you are not living in the UK, you may contact the embassy or the consulate for a citizenship ceremony.
Adults over the age of 18 must attend the citizenship ceremony and children under the age of 18 are not required to attend the ceremony. If they are not possible to attend, a family member can collect a UK citizenship certificate on their behalf if they do not attend the ceremony.

Booking for the British citizenship ceremony

Upon approval of the UK citizenship application, you will receive an invitation letter from the Home Office to attend the UK citizenship ceremony. The invitation letter shows how to book a ceremony in your local authority.
You must book a UK citizenship ceremony before the invitation letter expires and contact the Home Office if you are unable to attend the ceremony before the expiry date of your invitation letter.

How much do you have to pay?

The citizenship ceremony is usually held as a group with other people. If you want to have a private citizenship ceremony, you need to arrange this with the local authority. The cost of the citizenship ceremony is £80 for standard group events and is included in the application fee for submitting the citizenship application. For the private ceremony, you can pay an additional fee of £100 or more and this cost may vary depending on the venue and time.

Documents you need

In addition to the invitation letter to the British citizenship ceremony, you should take the original photo identification document, such as a driver's license or passport to prove your identity. If the identity is failed to confirm, the ceremony may not be held.

What to do at the Ceremony?

At the British citizenship ceremony, you must pledge or affirm your allegiance to the Crown and pledge of loyalty to uphold the British values and laws. After the pledge of loyalty is completed, a certificate of British citizenship and a welcome pack will be presented, and professional photographs will be taken which will be available to purchase, depending on the local authority in which the ceremony is held.
