The Global Talent Visa replaces the former Tier 1 Exceptional talent visa. The Global Talent Visa is a visa category for talented and promising people in science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology, arts and culture who wish to work in the UK. 


Who is it suitable for?

The Global Talent Visa category opens up to talented and promising candidates in science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology, arts and culture (film and television, fashion design, architecture, etc.). ‘Talent’ applicants are those who are already proven to be leaders in each field, and ‘Promise’ applicants are those who can show their potential to be leaders in their designated field. The number of applicants are not limited in the Global Talent Visa category, and you can apply for settlement if you meet the requirements after three or five years of stay.


Global Talent Visa Basic Requirements

To apply for the Global Talent Visa, you must first need to receive endorsement from the relevant appropriate endorsing body. Endorsement is available in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology, art and culture (film, television, fashion design, architecture, etc.). 
 
The relevant Home Office approved endorsing bodies are:
 
Royal Society – Applies to natural and medical science.
The Royal Society may approve experts in mathematics, chemistry, physics, specific types of engineering, environmental science, biochemistry, biology, physiology, neuroscience, ecology, and clinical science. You must have a Ph.D. or equivalent qualifications and research fellowship.
 
Royal Academy of Engineering – Applies to Engineering.
The experts in engineering including mechanical, process, civil, biomedical, electrical, telecommunications technology and engineering policies. You must have a Ph.D. or equivalent qualifications and research fellowship.
 
British Academy – Applies to the fields of humanities and social sciences.
The British Academy can endorse applicants in the fields of humanities, social sciences, literature, theology and law. You must have a Ph.D. or equivalent qualifications and research fellowship.
 
Art Council – Applies to arts, culture, fashion, architecture, film and television.
The British Arts Council can endorse talented and promising people in the fields of dance, music, theatre, visual arts, literature, museums, galleries and complex arts. Talented people in film, television, animation, post-production and visual effects can also be endorsed.
 
- Tech Nation – Applies to digital technology.
Tech Nation can endorse people with technical and business skills. Up to five individuals can apply at a time to establish a venture with new technology that is in short supply and located in northern England.
 
Research and Innovation – Applies to Science and Innovation Research.
Applicants who host a scientific community or are operating in the field can apply. There should be an evidence or award-winning experience that has contributed greatly to the development of scientific innovation technology.
 
Each endorsing body has its own criteria, but requires considerable work and support from experts in the field. If you receive an endorsement from the relevant body, you can apply for the Global Talent Visa. 


Can Global Talent Visa holder bring family members?

Global Talent Visa holders can bring spouses, same-sex partners, or unmarried partners and children under the age of 18.


Validity of Global Talent Visa

Global Talent Visa applicants can choose up to maximum 5 years in a single application.
However, if the applicant wishes to stay in the UK for a shorter period of time, the period of stay will be flexible.


Switching into the Global Talent Visa within the UK

If the applicant does not currently stay on a visiting visa, short-term students, Parent of Independent school child visas, temporary workers, etc., the application may be made in the UK. If you hold a visa that cannot be switched, you must leave the UK and submit an application for the Global Talent Visa in your home country.


Global Talent Visa English and Financial Conditions

Global Talent Visa applicants do not need to satisfy the English and maintenance to prove their funds needed to live in the UK.


Extension for Global Talent Visa

If you decide to stay longer than expected in the UK or if you cannot apply for settlement due to excessive absences, you can extend your visa and there is no maximum number of years that you are able to remain in the UK as a Global Talent Visa holder. In order to extend your stay, you must have income in linked professional field, and evidence of this income must be documents verifiable by the Home Office. Your initial endorsement should not be withdrawn by the endorsing body.


Global Talent Visa Settlement

You can apply for the settlement if you continue to meet the requirements for extending your stay as stated above. In addition, you need to prove your English skill and sufficient knowledge of the life in the UK. In general, you must live in the UK for more than 180 days a year to qualify for the settlement, but if you are endorsed by one of the fields of science, humanities and medicine, you can apply for the settlement regardless of your overseas stay. Dependant family members will be treated in the same way.
